The work of Pet Angel Welfare Supply  is supported entirely through the donations from the community. Along with the generous hearts and hands of people, we can ensure that animals who come into the care of Pet Angel Welfare Supply will never again be alone, hungry, sick, afraid or in pain. Because of generous donations, Pet Angel  is able to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home animals in Nassau County and its surrounding areas.

The mission of Pet Angel Welfare Supply is to be an all encompassing resource center for all homeless animals and help better the animal community and shelters with the necessary resources for them to draw from and show compassionate care for the homeless, neglected, and abused animals within our community. We are driven by the simple philosophy that kindness to animals helps build a better world for all of us.

A comfortable and busy shelter pet is a happier, healthier pet. Happier pets are more adoptable and have a better chance of getting out of a shelter alive and into a loving home and stressed pets are much more likely to become ill or go “kennel crazy” or withdrawn and depressed and have to be euthanized.

Providing raised plastic beds will keep puppies and dogs off cold wet floors and can be sterilized, preventing illnes. Blankets, Kong toys, vaccines, and other items to provide comfort, prevent illness, and mental stimulation will ease stress and ultimately lead to more adoptable pets and reduce euthanasia.

PAWS Aims To Help Struggling Pet Owners
Woman Creates Organization To Reduce Strays, Animals In Shelters
POSTED: Monday, December 28, 2009 UPDATED: 6:19 pm EST December 28, 2009 JACKSONVILLE, Fla.

-- Most don't usually associate pets with food banks, but in the current economic times, people need help feeding their pets more than ever. They'll soon be getting some additional assistance. For some families, the decision to be made is whether to put food on the table or provide food for their pets. Animal shelters are at capacity, as more and more pet owners find they are unable to afford their animals. "Just knowing that a lot of those pets get euthanized, it just seems so unfair to the family," said Karen Smith, a bonafide animal lover. "I've got seven dogs, two pet iguanas and two pythons." When Smith realized the problem existed, she started Pet Angel Welfare Supply, or PAWS, an organization that she hopes will reduce the number of strays and animals in the shelters.
Beginning in 2010, people can donate food in PAWS drop-off cans, as well as money and gently used blankets. The donations will be distributed throughout the Duval and Nassau county areas. Smith hopes that with the free food, pet owners dealing with tough economic times will think twice about giving up their animals. "Or at least until they can find a home before taking it to a shelter, maybe it would give them the time to find a permanent home," Smith said.
PAWS will be taking donations on Jan. 1-2 at the Food Lion in Fernandina Beach.
Smith ultimately plans to expand the pickup and drop-off locations throughout the Duval and Nassau county areas.
